Clothing
Jamaica has a tropical climate that stays around 80 degrees year-round. It is recommended that you bring light clothes such as shorts, skirts and bathing suits to be most comfortable. Nights in Jamaica cool down a little, so men can usually wear slacks comfortably. Most vacationers' pack too many clothes for their vacation, and upon returning from vacation realize that swimming attire was the most-worn item. Resorts in Jamaica will often offer laundry and dry-cleaning at a reasonable fee if you run out of clean clothes. It is recommended that you bring formal dress clothes if staying at an all-inclusive resort, as many require it to eat at the best restaurants.
Health Items
Medicines for upset stomach, diarrhea and allergies are all important things to pack when visiting a foreign country, due to your body being introduced to new pathogens and allergens. Many resorts or stores will carry common items such as pain relievers and cold medicine, but at a very high price. Also, comforts from home, such as favorite shampoos, soaps and lotions, should be packed, because Jamaica offers few to no American products in most towns. Sunscreen is another important item to pack, especially if you sensitive to the sun. For peak exposure, it is recommended that you wear at least a 25 SPF sunblock. Some visitors can get by without any sunblock, but many find that they get burned much easier than back home.
Documents
It is very important that you pack copies of all important documents and identification. A copy of your passport information page is very helpful if you lose your original passport in a foreign country. It is a good idea to also carry copies of your health insurance card and any other important things you normally carry that could be lost easily. Airplane tickets and resort information should also be copied and packed in case you lose the originals, as many airlines only require a paper receipt to obtain boarding passes, so any copy will be accepted. It is also a good idea to have an information card with your contact information in every piece of luggage you bring, so that if your luggage is lost, whoever finds it knows how to contact you.
