The Best Places to Travel in Europe in Winter

The Best Places to Travel in Europe in Winter
If winter sports and European travel are your passions, you have a distinct advantage over other avid travelers. Come winter, airfares to Europe are often less expensive. Additionally, some European ski packages offer a better value than those found in the United States.

Chamonix, France

Chamonix is situated in the northwest section of the Alps. Its proximity to the French, Swiss and Italian borders makes it a fascinating ski and cultural experience. In fact, you can ski the Vallée Blanche from the Mont Blanc area of Chamonix into Courmeyer, Italy. Since both countries are part of the European Union, no passport is needed. However, this is advanced skiing. Hiring a guide is recommended.

Snowkiting in Norway

Snowkiting is a sport that combines the thrills and skiing and snowboarding with the excitement of flying a kite. Since it does not involve the use of a chairlift, it is considered and eco-friendly sport. The kite is attached to the skier or rider via a harness. Wind power is used for locomotion. While there are many snowkiting destinations in the United States, if you've always been fascinated by Norway, the Hardangervidda Mountain Plateau is one of the top snowkiting destinations in the world. Fluid Feeling is a United Kingdom company, that offers all-inclusive snowkiting vacations. Lessons, lodging and equipment rentals are included in the packages. While you are in Norway, the town of Telemark is a few hours from Hardangervidda. Since telemark is known as the birthplace of recreational skiing, it might be worth a visit.
