Things to Do in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina
Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina is located about 10 miles east of Wilmington on the the barrier islands that run the coast. Since the islands are located between the Intercoastal Waterway and Atlantic Ocean, it gives visitors the unique opportunity of watching both a sunrise and sunset over water. Wrightsville Beach has plenty of activities, including visiting the USS North Carolina, water sports and shopping, plus plenty of places to eat on the island and the mainland.

Exercise

If you love the outdoors, then Wrightsville has plenty to offer you. Tennis lessons are offered at the Wrightsville Beach Park tennis courts at various times throughout the week. There are several golf courses in nearby Wilmington for the golfer in the group, and a fitness trail called The Loop goes around the island to give you the opportunity to stay in shape.

Water Sports

Water sports are popular with jet ski rentals available at Wrightsville Beach Jet Ski Rentals, and kayak or canoe rentals available at Hook, Line and Paddle. Boats can be chartered for fishing excursions as well as water tours and cruises of the area. Or if being on a water vessel isn't your thing, body surfing in the waves near shore can be another alternative water activity. Surf fishing is also an option, however a fishing license must be purchased for this activity. Costs vary depending on the amount of time you plan on fishing.

Nature Walks

For nature lovers, the Shell Island Bird Walk is located on the north end of the island. It is located within the Mason Inlet Water Bird Management Area, and tours are given for free on Fridays between April and September. The North Carolina Birding Trail connects bird areas throughout Wrightsville Beach and is another interesting walk. Masonboro Island is located at the southern end of Wrightsville Beach and is one of the few undisturbed islands in North Carolina. It provides you with nature trails and peaceful surroundings, and you can only get there by boat.
