Outdoor lovers have plenty to do in Waikiki, Honolulu on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. There's boating, fishing, snorkeling, para sailing, boating and fishing on the tons of beaches. Plus, the Ko'olau Mountains offers hiking and biking opportunities. However, this spot is really a haven for surfers of all levels. Novice surfers can try smaller waves on Waikiki Beach, and expert surfers can check out the sometimes 20-foot waves at the world famous North Shore. During the winter months, professionals from around the world flock here for competitions at the North Shore; beginners can get a taste of what really big surf is like to ride by attending these events. The first hotel in the area, built in 1901, was even named the Moana Surfrider.
