Ramona, California, is a small-town community in Northern San Diego County. Often regarded as the gateway to the inland mountains, Ramona is situated in a region referred to as "high desert". Warm desert air blends with cooler sea air to create ideal temperatures for most of the year. Residents enjoy the quiet hometown feel of Ramona, while also taking advantage of being close to the cities of San Diego and Los Angeles. Ramona is a place that should definitely not be overlooked, and the area has some nice attractions to lure you in.

A trip to the Oasis Camel Dairy will be an evening that you won't forget. A tour of this facility is as fun as it is educational, and the beauty of the surrounding countryside is inspiring. The Camel Dairy is located in a rural area on the outskirts of Ramona, among scenic hills and lush green horse ranches.

The herd of camels at the dairy is very tame, and loves to be stroked and petted. This makes the dairy and especially popular attraction for those who are traveling with children. Be advised that a tour of the Oasis Camel Dairy is only given once per month, at 6:00 p.m.on a Sunday afternoon, and only to those who have made a reservation. Call in advance to schedule a visit; it's the only way to get those wonderfully scented bars of camels milk soap.

Tucked neatly into the hills of northern San Diego County is a quiet retreat known as the Mt. Woodson Country Club. Crossing the 450-foot long wooden bridge to approach the stone structure of the lodge immediately presents visitors with an atmosphere of quiet serenity. The architecture of the main building and the club's windmill are visual reminders that you've left the city behind and stepped into a calmer country environment.

Although there are many activities to take part in at the Mt. Woodson Country Club, it is the golf course that gets the most attention. The Mt. Woodson course is widely considered to be the best in San Diego County, and Golf Digest ranked the course as "one of the most beautiful, unique courses in California." If you have an interest in Golf, the hillside views of this course are an attraction that you won't want to miss.

Operated by the Historical Society of Ramona, the Guy B. Woodward Museum takes visitors on a journey into the past. This unique museum chronicles the lives of the early pioneers who settled the Santa Maria Valley, where the town of Ramona now stands.

The museum is much more than a standard building full of exhibits. The museum is a complex of buildings that include historical homes and businesses from Ramona's past. This allows visitors to experience history on a tactile level and to feel as though they personally know the people who appear in the aging photographs.
