Camping Around Disney

It's every child and inner-child's dream to visit the sprawling Walt Disney World Theme Parks in central Florida, but not everyone is interested in the crowded resorts on the Disney property. If you're more interested in trees and the earth than amenities and continental breakfasts, then these campgrounds are for you. Some of them even have comparable amenities.

If it's Disney World you want, then Fort Wilderness is the place for you. It has everything you could ask for: accessibility to Disney Theme Parks, family-friendly events and, of course, Mickey Mouse. Campsites range from $57 to $72 a night, so this is a comparatively expensive option. This includes access to the moderately priced Trail's End Restaurant, as well as the more expensive Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue and the seasonal all-you-can-eat Mickey's Backyard BBQ Dinner Show.

Orange Grove Campground

Perhaps you want a little more elbow room and to spend a little less per night. Orange Grove Campground, at $26 to $34 a night, is just 15 minutes from Disney World and other theme parks, and is just down the street from plenty of restaurants and evening entertainment. They also have a swimming pool and playground on site if your kids aren't worn out from Disney in the daytime.

Kissimmee/Orlando Kampground of America

For just over $64 a night, KOA is only 20 minutes away from the theme parks that define Orlando. They offer a more rustic camping experience very close to all the attractions your family seeks. Your money gets you water hook ups, a place to pop your tent and free firewood, but not much else. But what more do you need when you have Disney World at your fingertips?
