Harmonie State Park
The town of Harmonie was founded in the early 1800s by a religious cult or sect that settled there and later sold to another religious group. Today the site is home to the Harmonie State Park, with a large swimming pool and picnic areas. Tent camping is available at the park, but it also has cabin rentals. You can enjoy bike trails and hiking trails or take your boat right out into the water.

Indiana Dunes State Park
The Indiana Dunes State Park is open year-round and sits right on Lake Michigan, which gives you access to beaches and swimming. The nine-mile long Calumet Trail is situated on the property for hikers and there are shorter hiking trails running through the nearby woods. This state park has cross-country skiing in the winters and camping throughout the year, however, you must be 21 to rent a campsite.

Charlestown State Park
Charlestown State Park has tent camping available, but also has sites with electrical hookups if you prefer traveling by camper. The park is popular with bird watchers as there are over 70 different species of birds in the area. Hiking trails in the park traverse fairly large hills and mountains, with elevation changes of over 200 ft. It's a challenge if you haven't hiked in awhile.

Whitewater Memorial State Park
The Whitewater Memorial State Park is open year-round, with ice fishing available during the winter months. There are over 300 camping sites at the park, including primitive spots and those with electricity. Bridle trails with horseback riding, hiking trails and a boat launch ramp are all located at the park. Additionally the park has a beach and a boat rental with kayaks, rowboats and other types of boats for rent.
