Arizona Raft Adventures (AzRA) is a large, experienced company that provides trips with a personal touch. Depending on your interests, you can sign on for a specialty outing that emphasizes natural history, hiking or even yoga.
AzRA offers different options for your transportation on the river. An all-paddle trip keeps you busy and challenged all day; a hybrid trip involves two kinds of rafts---you're active on a paddle raft when you want to and then you can relax on the other raft while your guide handles the oars. Motor trips on larger rafts are also available.

Arizona River Runners
The most popular outing by Arizona River Runners is a six-day, five-night motorized trip that fills a week-long vacation to a tee. The company also offers other motorized trips of different lengths, starting with a three-day jaunt if you're short on time. There are also oar-powered trips up to 13 days long.
The raft trips are led by experienced, knowledgeable guides. Some trips include hiking into or out of the Grand Canyon, and some include a helicopter trip to the canyon floor.

Grand Canyon Expeditions
Grand Canyon Expeditions (GCEX) provides motorized trips and dory expeditions---the dories are updated versions of the wooden boats used by John Wesley Powell in 1869.
Among the motorized trips, you can pick a special one that meets your interests. GCEX offers expeditions focusing on history, ecology, geology, archeology and photography, with a professional in each field giving commentary and instruction along the way.

Canyon Explorations
Canyon Explorations/Expeditions offers hybrid and all-paddle trips in the full canyon or in the upper or lower part. Special outings include a 16-day trip with extra hiking opportunities, and a 15-day trip with the added pleasure of a string quartet.
The company also includes the opportunity for hard-shell kayakers to accompany its outings. It will provide a guide for four or more kayakers, but you have to be able to handle the rapids yourself.
