The Dolomites

Europe's largest high-alpine meadow, the Alpe di Siusi is a picturesque valley from which to explore Italy's renowned Dolomites. Surrounded by dramatic Alps and punctuated with German-Italian villages boasting regional wines, live music and storybook architecture, it's no wonder the region is a favorite with travelers.

Unsurpassed hiking in the late summer and skiing in winter ensure a variety of budget accommodations sure to meet the needs of the thrifty solo trekker or a whole family. Budget travel options, however, are limited throughout the rest of the year, so for the best rates make your travel plans for either winter or from July to September.
