Moody Gardens
A visit to Moody Gardens is a good way to spend a rainy day. Featuring exhibits from rainforest to marine life, Moody Gardens is fun and educational. The Aquarium Pyramid is home to several species of sea creatures, and includes a penguin exhibit and a shark exhibit. The Aquarium Pyramid gives a spectacular look at the undersea world of the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. The Rainforest Pyramid at Moody Gardens displays over 1,000 different species of plants from African, Asian and American rainforests. Get a look at the weird side of science in the Discovery Pyramid, which features a wide array of exhibits. You will also find an IMAX 3D Theater, a RideFilm Theater, a 4D Special FX Theater and a Colonial Paddlewheel Boat to keep you busy on rainy Galveston days. Moody Gardens is open year-round, including all holidays. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission includes all areas of the park.

Texas Seaport Museum
There are several museums in the Galveston area, offering a chance to learn about a variety of subjects. Take a couple of hours to enjoy one museum, or spend the entire day taking in the exhibits at several different facilities. One of the most popular museums in Galveston is the Texas Seaport Museum, located in the port of Galveston. Learn the history of the area's seaborne commerce. Search for the names of ancestral immigrants, numbering over 133,000 in the computer database. Tour the ELISSA, an 1877 tall ship designated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as one of America's Treasures. This beautiful ship was once in the seaport scrapyard, but was rescued and completely restored. Tours at the Texas Seaport Museum are self-guided, and admission includes access to the immigration database and a theater presentation. The Texas Seaport Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

USS Cavalla
Be sure to tour the USS Cavalla SSK-244 submarine, located at Seawolf Park in Galveston. You will also find the Destroyer Escort USS Stewart (DE-238) at this location. Both boats are available for self-guided tours seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to one hour before sunset. Bring a camera along to capture photos of these vessels.
