Heron Watch Nature Tour at Golden Gate Park

The San Francisco Nature Education organization offers a Heron Watch tour at Golden Gate Park where visitors can spend an afternoon learning about the great blue herons and their chicks as the birds play and nest around Stow Lake. The tour is free and open to teens of all ages. Guided tours are also available for a $10 fee, and this tour includes narrated tours of other nesting birds in the area.

Scuba Diving Lessons

Bamboo Reef Scuba Diving Center offers scuba lessons and classes, and offers a beginner's open water course program with both classroom and pool training. Teens can learn from certified scuba instructors, and head to the ocean around San Francisco to complete their training. As of 2009, the fee for this program was $199.50 per person, and student are responsible for purchasing a student kit for $74.95. Class schedules vary by season.

Indoor Ice Skating

The Yerba Buena Ice Skating and Bowling Center can be a fun place for teenagers to hang out and spend the afternoon practicing their ice skating skills. The venue offers open public skating sessions every day, as well as private coaching and group beginner classes through its skate school. Teens can register for a class by visiting the Pro Shop at the center. As of 2009, single 30-minute classes are $17.50 per session. Skate rentals for figure skates through adult size 14 are available for $8 per teen. As of 2009, public skating rates and freestyle sessions are $12 per session and discounts are available if the teen registers for a class or has a discount card.

Paddle Board Rental

Teenagers who have some experience with paddle boarding can rent a paddle board from the Boardsports School and Shop's San Francisco location and enjoy some time out on the waters around the Golden Gate Bridge. As of 2009, paddle board rentals were $25 per hour for all ages. Paddle board clinics are also available at the Alameda and San Mateo locations for $99 per class, as of 2009.

Golden Gate Bay Cruise

The Red and White Fleet Boat Tour takes visitors under the Golden Gate Bridge, around the Sausalito waterfront and Angel Island for an unforgettable sightseeing tour as part of the Golden Gate Bay Cruise. The tour includes a narration with fun facts, legends and stories about the Bay area, and is a great choice for teenagers who want to learn more about key destinations around the coast. The tours last between one and two hours. As of 2009, cruise ticket prices for teens 17 and under were $16, and teens 18 and older paid a fee of $22.
