Umbria is right in the center of Italy. It's the only landlocked region in Italy, so most activities center around walking or hiking as opposed to the water sports popular in other regions. The capital, Perugia, is known for its black truffles. Umbria is known for many mountains and hills, which produce some of the country's top wines and olive oils. Fattoria di Poggio Hostel

You can't visit Umbria without going to Lago di Trasimento and the Fattoria di Poggio Hostel, located on the island in the middle of the lake. The hostel offers typical rates in the low 20s Euros, along with free breakfast and breathtaking views of the lake. Most people come here to relax and take early evening strolls. Paddle boats can be rented during warmer climates to explore around the island.

Ostello di Assisi

Whether you're Catholic or not, people come to Umbria to see the birth place of Saint Francis of Assisi, and the Ostello di Assisi is the most affordable place to stay for this purpose.
