The Best Family Ski Resorts in Europe

The Best Family Ski Resorts in Europe
European ski resorts offer not only an exciting vacation, but with breathtaking scenery these resorts are an experience within themselves. European ski resorts are not like the ones found stateside because instead of having one or two buildings, these resorts encompass vast areas and appear as mountain villages. Determining the amount of money you wish to spend, where you want to vacation and which amenities you desire should all be considered when choosing a resort.

Zermatt Resort

Zermatt is a pristine resort village within Switzerland that has banned the use of motor vehicles. All visitors must arrive by train; they are then taken to their lodge via horse-drawn sleighs or an electric cart. Zermatt is known for its numerous ski slopes; however, there are many activities that will keep both the skier and the non-skier entertained. The indoor climbing wall will keep you and your family out of the cold while you test your endurance on the 22-foot wall. If you want to enjoy the beautiful scenery and take in the slopes without worrying about falling, then the Toboggan at Furi is for you. The Furi is an evening trip that will allow you to first enjoy culinary delights from sophisticated restaurants, followed by a toboggan ride back down to Zermatt. This resort features 365 days of snow, so you are sure to enjoy skiing and snowboarding whenever you visit.

Val Thorens

The Val Thorens, a resort located in the French Alps, is comprised of eight different villages. These villages contain elaborate and luxurious accommodations, restaurants and activities for the entire family. This massive mountain resort has the Lords of the Snow program, designed for children and is overseen by a professional staff. Kids will learn the basics in skiing as well as how to handle the snow. The entire village is known as a semi-pedestrian resort, which means that the use of vehicles is extremely limited. You are able to drive your car to your accommodations to unload your luggage, however, you must part your car in one of the 3,500 secured parking spaces. A complementary shuttle will take you back to your lodging. This method ensures a clean, environmentally friendly experience at the resort. There are a total of three ski domains that comprise more than 1040 km, or 646 miles, of runs. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced skier, there are slopes for you.
