San Diego is famous for its sun and surf. Travelers from all over the world embark upon its famous beaches to swim, lay in the sun and party. A trip to San Diego almost always includes a day trip to Tijuana, which more or less guarantees an interesting experience. San Diego is filled with hostels, many giving their guests easy access to the beach, downtown and the surrounding area.

HI-San Diego Point Loma

The HI-San Diego Point Loma is located a mile and a half from Ocean Beach. The hostel offers four- to eight-person shared dorms as well as private rooms. All include linens. Guests can make their own pancakes in the morning and drink free coffee and tea all day. Once a week the hostel hosts a bonfire night and separate movie night. There is no curfew, and guests have 24-hour access to the kitchen. Internet is available for a small fee.

San Diego's Ocean Beach International Hostel

Guests of San Diego's Ocean Beach International Hostel stay in shared dorm rooms with up to six beds. Same-sex and mixed rooms are available; some come with a bathroom. Free transportation from the airport to the hostel is available. The price of accommodation includes breakfasts, barbecues and wireless Internet. The hostel is within walking distance to the beach.

Banana Bungalow

The Banana Bungalow puts guests across the street from Pacific Beach. Guests stay in mixed-sex shared dorm rooms with in-room bathrooms or private rooms with satellite TVs and fridges. The hostel offers free wireless internet access, free use of boogie boards, free daily breakfasts and free linens. The hostel has a communal kitchen and laundry facilities with free detergent. Lockers are available.
