Camping in Mackinaw City

Camping in Mackinaw City

Wikipedia Commons

Mackinaw City is the gateway to Michigan's upper peninsula. The Mackinac bridge that connects the lower and upper peninsulas sits right in the northern tip of the city. It is also home to the ferry services that connect the mainland to Mackinac Island, so the majority of visitors to the island also stay in Mackinaw City. It has many lodging options, including campgrounds.

Mackinaw Mill Creek Campground

Mackinaw Mill Creek Campground is just west of the Mackinac bridge on more than a mile of lakefront property. It is a full-service campground that offers basic campsites, full hook-up campsites and cabins. There are also many other services available, such as a camp store, wireless Internet and activities for children. The campground is open from May 1 through the end of September. From the camp, the view of the bridge is one of the best in the city.

Camp Tee Pee Campground

Camp Tee Pee is on the eastern side of Mackinaw City close to the Mackinac Island ferry docks. It is a small, family-owned campground on the shore of Lake Huron. It offers electric hook-up campsites that include fire rings. Its amenities include game room, shower room and a camp store. The campground is open from May 15 through Oct. 11.

Wilderness State Park

Wilderness State Park is an expansive state park a short drive west of Mackinaw City. It is home to miles of Lake Michigan shoreline and has a campground and rental cabins. Campsites have electric hookups, fire rings and picnic tables. Vault toilets are located throughout the park. The park is home to beaches, snowmobile trails, hiking trails and cross-country ski trails.
