GPX
Wissenbach Map3D software uses GPX files, also known as GPS Exchange files. These files list waypoints and routes that you designate or list inside. The files are interchangeable with GPS units, including those from Garmin and other reputable companies. You can upload your favorite spots in the GPS unit and map out your route on the system. The navigation software also helps you identify harbor markings, reefs, stumps and other objects located beneath the water that might flip your boat.
Creating Routes
Wissenbach Map3D navigation software lets you map routes two different ways. The first involves placing a topographic map on the GPS unit and drawing over the map to place your different waypoints and trails on it. The software can also sync up with your GPS unit and find routes already created. Then you can add in stops and waypoints on the map and get an easy-to-follow route. You can also add routes created by other users who used the software.
Navigation
Using the Wissenbach Map3D for navigation is easy. Once you open the program and select a route, it looks for the data inside your GPS unit, data uploaded by the U.S. Geological Survey and any data saved in a GPX file. It then overlays any maps and data it finds to create one all-inclusive route. The route includes topography of the area and any waypoints you previously listed such as reefs or shallow areas of the water. Essentially it includes everything you want or need on one map, which is helpful if you find yourself lost, because you can find your location using the map.
Ease of Use
The ease of use is another reason why it's the best. When you open the program, it shows a blank screen, which gives you the chance to sync the software with your GPS unit. Then you can enter coordinates or view coordinates based on the data you provide. It shows you a map of the entire area based on this data and lets you save the route as is, make changes or start over again from scratch.
