The Best Time to Fish in Costa Rica
Costa Rica is a favorite among fishermen because of the lack of seasons. Costa Rica doesn't have a traditional cold season, which means fish are almost always biting. Consider planning your fishing trip for the winter months, and in particular November, because that's when the fish are most plentiful.

Marlin

November is the best time of year for fishing for marlin. According to fishing reports, more Pacific blue marlin are caught in October and November than any other time of year. But you also have to consider the black marlin, and fishing for this species is good during the same months. The black marlin are only available during a few months each year, including May and June.

Sailfish

The Pacific sailfish is one of the breeds well known in Costa Rica and available throughout the year. But the fish is spotted more frequently during the winter, and in November. Fishing in the spring or summer only results in a few catches. It's also known for breeding during the winter because of the cooler water.

Other Species

Costa Rica is also home to dozens of other species of fish, including yellowfin tuna, roosterfish, snapper and dorado. While some fishermen come for the more exciting breeds of sailfish and marlin, many others come because the fishing for all species in plentiful. If you're trying to catch any type of fish, then November is the best time of year to visit.
