Sheffield is a big city in northern England, situated in the beautiful area of Yorkshire. For those who love the great outdoors, Sheffield is the closest major city to Britain's first national park, the Peak District. This open country of moors, sheep pastures, and tiny villages is only 20 miles from Sheffield's city center, making it a natural jumping off point or perhaps even a base for an exploration of the park.

Hilton Sheffield

Located on the scenic quayside and two minutes from the city center, every one of the 300 rooms of this 4-star hotel has high speed Internet access, a 32-inch plasma TV, and big windows to let in plenty of natural light. There is a full fitness center and swimming pool, as well as a restaurant, bar, and cafe.

This is principally a student hostel offering furnished accommodations, with both singles and larger rooms with between 2 and 7 beds, all charged by the week. In 2009, a small room went for 39 pounds (about $64) a week (excluding gas and electric), making it an inexpensive option indeed.
