IATA Airlines
For a complete list of all 230 airlines that are members of the IATA, visit the association's website at www.iata.org. Member airlines are divided into two categories, active members and associate members. Active members are airlines that operate international services, or both international service and domestic services. Associate members strictly operate domestic services. Member airlines are from both cargo and passenger airlines.
Passenger Airlines
Most of the leading passenger airlines from around the world are members of the IATA. This benefits consumers by simplifying processes from ticket buying, to boarding. The IATA is even working to make it possible to purchase an airline ticket in a single phone call, and use the same ticket for several flights. The IATA also protects the passenger airlines themselves, offering safety protocol and securing business. Some passenger airlines that are members of the IATA include Virgin Atlantic, United Airlines, Air France and Northwest Airlines.
Cargo Airlines
IATA cargo airlines transport 35 percent of the value of goods bought and sold each year internationally, according to the IATA. The IATA works to keep the cargo transport industry competitive. This is achieved by regulating charges and improving fuel efficiency to lower costs. Some of these cargo airlines include C.A.L. Cargo Airlines, China Cargo Airlines Ltd., and Nippon Cargo Airlines.
Travel Agencies
Travel agencies and travel or tourism companies can also be members of the IATA. These agencies or intermediaries can receive IATA accreditation by applying to become members. Benefits include increased ease of business with the airlines they are working with, as the IATA helps both the agencies and airlines have similar goals, codes and processes.
