Johor Bahru is a major city sitting on the southern tip of Peninsular Malaysia, directly across from the island city-state of Singapore. It is mostly a city of trade and business, enjoying a prosperous relationship with its southern neighbor. However, many wealthy Singaporeans look at Johor Bahru as a weekend getaway destination, so there is a thriving industry catering to that. Opportunities there include scuba diving excursions, windsurfing, fun at the beach and plenty of golf.

Mercure Johor Palm Resort and Golf Course

This hotel was formerly a Sofitel, and it remains a popular destination for Singaporeans who want to hop across the border for a golf holiday. The resort's golf course is a huge 54-hole facility. There are also tennis and squash courts, a bowling alley, an Olympic-sized outdoor swimming pool and children's entertainment area. The resort has four restaurants, and there is also a fitness center and spa. With so much on offer, the resort is more than a four-star hotel, but not quite a five-star.
