Hotel Orkid
The Orkid's rooms are all air-conditioned, and have a TV and the other features one would expect from a 3-star hotel. It has its own restaurant, and is around the corner from the Melaka Mall, one of the city's major shopping centers. In terms of location, it is just outside the old town, so that can be reached either on foot or by the bus line that runs right by the mall.

Heeren House
This cozy guest house has only six rooms. It is tastefully appointed and situated within sight of the Malacca River in Chinatown. All rooms have air-conditioning, TV (no cable) and a private bathroom. There is a small cafe, but it serves only breakfast and then light fare through the day. The ground floor of the guest house is also a crafts shop. This is serious bang for the buck, as it is both nice and reasonably priced.
