Koh Samui is probably the most developed of Thailand's tropical island destinations, so there is a wide range of lodging options that will satisfy almost any taste. For the outdoors enthusiast, Koh Samui offers access to Angthong National Marine Park, with its many opportunities for scuba diving, snorkeling and sea kayaking. On the island itself, there is plenty of fun in the sun and day hikes to local waterfalls.

Four Seasons Koh Samui

Among the poshest of posh beach resorts in Koh Samui is the Four Seasons. Like most of the top resorts in Thailand, the stretch of beach adjacent to the hotel is private property and solely for hotel guests. The main restaurant is perched over 300 feet above the beach, offering an excellent sea view. The hotel has a beachside restaurant and separate beach bar. There is also a spa that includes a yoga center and offers beachside treatments, fitness center, tennis court and outdoor swimming pool. The rooms each come complete with their own small swimming pool for a cooling dip. Even the basic room is a private villa, and the luxury only ascends from there.

Lawana Resort

The Lawana is a great 3-star beach resort. It is small and cozy, located directly off of Bo Phut Beach, and all accommodations take the form of bungalows. There are three classes of bungalows, with the largest having its own private swimming pool of suitable size for a cooling dip. The resort also has its own larger outdoor pool for general use, a children's play area, wireless internet and a seaside restaurant.

Beer's House Beach Bungalows

At the budget end of the Koh Samui accommodation spectrum, a great choice that offers a lot of bang for the buck is Beer's House Beach Bungalows and Guesthouse. There are five bungalows facing the beach and six more behind them. Each has its own little patio with a hammock, a private bathroom, mosquito nets for the beds and an electric fan. Beer's also owns a block of standard rooms across the beach road. These all offer private bathrooms, TVs and air conditioning. The cheapest option is the four original guesthouse rooms that are adjacent to the bungalows, but these share a common bathroom. Beer's has its own restaurant offering both Western and Thai food.
