North Conway is the gateway to New Hampshire's northern outdoor adventures. Whether you are planning a stay in North Conway to ski, ice climb, hike, snowshoe or canoe, there are plenty of fine places to rest your head and gear up for your outdoor adventures. Set out from any of these hotels into the White Mountains where New England's tallest peak, Mount Washington, is just 25 minutes away.

Eastern Slope Inn

With an Eastern Mountain Sports store right inside the lobby, it's hard to find a better base for your outdoor pursuits than the Eastern Slope Inn. Gear rentals and purchases can be made if you forget to bring a your own gear, or want to try out a new sport, such as ice climbing. You can book tours and classes here too. The Eastern Slope Inn has been in business since 1937 and offers guest houses, cottages and suites. Some suites can accommodate up to eight people. Rooms at the main hotel start at $109 per night (as of 2009). Enjoy their glass-enclosed, heated swimming pool and spa tub, or outdoor heated pool after a long day hiking in the mountains.

The White Mountain Hotel and Resort

If you prefer luxurious lodging, the White Mountain Hotel offers 80 guest rooms and 13 luxurious suites with views of the mountains. Children under six stay and eat free. The luxury suites start at $219 per night for early summer weekends, $249 per night in the fall (2009 prices). Discounted ski lift tickets for six different nearby mountains are available, as well as golf packages, bed and breakfast packages, rock climbing and family adventure packages. The White Mountain Hotel and Resort is only five miles from Conway Village where there is tax-free outlet shopping.

North Conway Grand Hotel

North Conway's premier resort is located on 95 acres just behind the Settler's Green Outlet Village. Relax in one of four pools, hang out at the pool-side fire pit at night or refuel at the Mountainside Restaurant and Tavern. Each room at the Grand is oversized and has views of the well-kept grounds, including a pond and views of the White Mountains in the distance. Some rooms feature an indoor two-person Jacuzzi. There are four tennis courts, a large fitness center and winter ice skating. Basic, standard rooms start at $99 (2009 prices) for September booking.
