You will find upper Austria's Freistadt to have the look and feel of the quintessential historic town. With only about 8,000 year round residents, its medieval origin is easily visible in the old-fashioned structures that house modern hotels and businesses. Outdoor enthusiasts are sure to enjoy the plentiful sport parks and city lakes, the ski area in winter, and also the cultural attractions that are part and parcel of the experience--and which are easily accessible on foot. In summer, bicyclists are sure to enjoy the bike paths, while pet owners and golfers also find the perfect venues to enjoy their stays.

The hotel "Goldener Adler"---or "Golden Eagle" in English---is a member of the Jäger Hotels. You find it in the historic portion of Freistadt, where it was built in the early portion of the 1300s. The venue started out as a brewery and has been family owned for six generations; each owner has added a bit of modernization to the place without destroying its historic charm.
You benefit from this foresight by having an ultramodern wellness spa at your disposal. Take advantage of the Finnish sauna, light therapy, relax in the Jacuzzi, and also replenish your health at the herbal steam bath. Sports enthusiasts enjoy table tennis and also the bike rental that allows you to experience old town Freistadt with a bicycle in addition to taking a walking tour. There is a bike path that goes around the city. In winter, the hotel operates a ski rental office. Health conscious guests appreciate the vegetarian specialties as well as the seafood that is part of the fare offered by this hotel.
Take advantage of the wellness package that in 2009 starts at 149 Euros, which translates roughly to about $214. It includes three nights at the hotel, use of all fitness and spa amenities, a guided walking tour of selected tourist sights, and gratis bike rentals.
