The Best Fly Fishing Line

Fishing tackle manufacturers continues to improve fly fishing equipment each season. New fly lines are easier to cast thanks to design and material breakthroughs. The best fishing lines enhance casting distance and reduce friction.

Cortland PE+ Crystal

This new line from Cortland is formulated with a special blend of polymers built around a monofilament core. The resulting line is lighter than water and casts further than PVC-coated lines thanks to a smooth outer surface that reduces the drag on the line. The PE+ Crystal line will not absorb water, is UV stable and is 100 percent recyclable.

Scientific Anglers Sharkskin

Scientific Anglers designed the Sharkskin series of fly line with a micro texture on the surface that enables this line to float higher due to the increased surface area of this design. This unique texture also enhances casting distance since friction is decreased compared to a smooth finish.

Rio Bonefish

Rio fly lines have formulated a new specifically for chasing bonefish on the saltwater flats. This line has a special taper that allows the line to load quickly at short range, which is important since bonefish move quickly. Rio's proprietary XS coating keeps this line slick for long-distance casts.
