Louisiana calls itself Sportsman's Paradise, and one of the reasons is places like Haughton, a small town near Shreveport surrounded by lakes, recreational areas and woodlands. It's within a short drive of Lake Bistineau and Cross Lake, and both have recreational areas attached. Pine forests great for trails and exploring the wilderness dominated the area. There are campgrounds of many kinds, from quick stop places on Interstate 20 to well-developed camping resorts around the lakes.

Lake Bistineau State Park

Lake Bistineau State Park is about 20 miles from Haughton. The lake area has upland hardwood forest, open waters and wetlands with cypress and tupelo trees. The park also offers a wide variety of camping options, including options for RV owners. There are group camps that have cabins and primitive camping and cabins for rent to individuals. There are 44 campsites with water and electricity and an additional 17 premium sites with water and electric and in prime locations and with pull-through options. There's a lakefront beach, a park headquarters with a small store, showers and restrooms. There are also many trails, including a 10-mile hike and bike trail, a half-mile nature trail and a 6-mile equestrian trail. There are boat ramps, and many people fish in the lake.

Cypress Black Bayou Campground

The campground at the Cypress Black Bayou Reservoir is on a peninsula and near the Black Bayou Recreation Area, about 20 miles west of Haughton and above Shreveport. The recreation area has boat ramps and many trails for hiking and horseback riding. There are 73 sites with water and electricity that are suitable for any size RV. There is a dump station but no sewer. The campsites are in a forested area, and the trees provide a sense of privacy and fencing from other sites. There are bathrooms, showers and laundry facilities. This park is a gateway to great fishing and boating. Canoes, kayaks and motorboats are available, as well as fishing tackle. There are boat launches, piers, a small zoo, a nature center, a beach and lots of lake access.

Tall Pines RV Park

Tall Pines RV Park is about 25 miles from Haughton, on Interstate 20 near Shreveport. This park is geared more toward the overnight camper who is on the way to another place, but it's suitable as a base for exploring the natural wonders around Haughton and Shreveport. The park has 93 sites with full hookups, and 50-amp service is available. The park has tall pine trees that provides privacy to your campsite. Cable TV and Wi-Fi are included, and there are bathrooms, showers and a recreation room. There's a fenced dog park and an RV service technician on staff, as well as some RV parts and supplies.
