Tyler State Park
Tyler State Park is a 985-acre park north of Tyler. The park features a 64-acre lake and hiking trails in addition to eight camping areas. Big Pine is the largest campground in the park and is only open to RVs and camper trailers. The remaining campgrounds are smaller and open to tents. All campsites in the park are near hiking and mountain biking trails. You can also kayak, fish and swim in the lake.

Martin Creek Lake State Park
Martin Creek Lake State Park is on the 5,000-acre Martin Creek Lake, which offers swimming, kayaking and fishing opportunities. Off-lake activities include backpacking, day hiking, wildlife viewing and a variety of interpretive programs held on Saturdays.
The park has a range of camping options. In addition to cabins and RV sites, you can camp at tent sites throughout the park, some of which are walk-in sites. One site, located on an island in the park accessible from a wooden bridge, is particularly popular.

Purtis Creek State Park
Purtis Creek State Park, east of Tyler, is a popular destination for hiking and fishing. You can also visit nearby Indian petroglyphs carved in rock walls. If you are interested in water activities but have no equipment, you can rent kayaks, paddleboats, and canoes from the park's rental shop. The campground area includes both RV and tent sites. It also features a fish-cleaning shelter, fishing pier and boat ramp.

Whispering Pines RV & Cabin Resort
Whispering Pines Resort is near Tyler State Park but offers more amenities. The resort is set up for RVs as well as visitors wanting to rent cabins, though tent sites are also available. Campers can take advantage of wireless Internet, a pool, a cafe and an on-site convenience store.
Despite the modern amenities, traditional camping experiences such as hiking and wildlife viewing are available in abundance throughout the surrounding area. Places of particular interest include Tiger Creek Wildlife Refuge and Old Sabine Bottom Wildlife Management Area.
