The Angelina National Forest, just east of Lufkin, surrounds Sam Rayburn Lake, which is one of the largest lakes in Texas. The lake was formed in the 1960s by damming the Angelina River. Recreational opportunities abound on the lake, the river and in the many trails of the national forest. Corps of Engineers campgrounds surround the lake, and there are many more campgrounds in the area.

Double S RV Park

The Double S RV Park is 12 miles from Sam Rayburn Lake and on the edge of the Angelina National Forest. The Angelia and Neches rivers are also in the area. The park has easy access to the national forest for bird and wildlife watching, hiking, fishing and hunting.

The park has 35 sites with full hookups, with 30- or 50-amp service available. Campsites and roads are paved with pea gravel. Showers, bathrooms and laundry facilities are available. Cable TV and Wi-Fi are included at no extra cost.

Snacks and souvenirs are available in the campground store, as well as a limited supply of groceries and RV supplies. A nearby RV repair shop will make house calls to your campsite.

The family that runs the campground also has a greenhouse and plant business on the grounds, selling shrubs, flowers and other plants.
