Winter RV Camping in Minnesota

Minnesota is a year-round destination for outdoor activities including winter camping. Some sights you can enjoy include the snow-capped hardwood forests in Frontenac or rocky structures and river gorge in Two Harbors. Winter activities abound including cross-country skiing and snowshoe hiking. If you are traveling in an RV to Minnesota, there are campsites from which to choose.

Frontenac State Park

Frontenac State Park is located on the Mississippi River and is surrounded with landscapes of bluff lands, floodplain forest, prairie and hardwood forest. The park offers year-round RV campsites with limited facilities during winter.



The park has 58 wooded drive-in sites, but only five campsites with electric hookups are open for use during winter. The maximum RV length limit is 53 feet.



Hike trails that lead from the camp to the river bank or view more than 250 species of birds such as waterfowl, shorebirds and hawks. Other park activities include boating, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Wild River State Park

Situated along 18 miles of the St. Croix River, Wild River State Park offers visitors scenic water views and a wide array of recreational opportunities year-round.



The park has RV sites, tent sites, canoe sites and cabin lodging. The camp has 96 RV sites with 34 electric sites. During winter, RV sites with electric hookups are available in the D lane of the campground. The park allows a maximum RV length limit of 60 feet.



Winter campers can use the warming house trail center near the horse campground. Fully enclosed and equipped with restrooms, the trail center also contains a wood stove and two fireplaces.



Rentals for ski and snowshoes are available in winter. Thirty-five miles of cross-country skiing trails are groomed each year for classic diagonal and skate skiing. Additionally, the park maintains 6 miles of trails for snowshoeing.

Gooseberry Falls State Park

Gooseberry Falls in Two Harbors features natural attractions such as a river gorge, waterfalls, rocky structures and the Lake Superior shoreline. The park offers year-round camping with limited facilities during winter. Sixty-nine RV campsites with three pull-through sites are available. RV sites have a length limit of 40 feet.



Winter campers can take advantage of the warming house in the visitor center. The warming house is equipped with a fireplace, vending machines and bathrooms. Winter campers can use 12 miles of groomed cross-country skiing trails, 2 miles of snowmobiling trails that extend along the North Shore of Lake Superior and 4 miles of maintained winter hiking trails.
