Sallisaw, Oklahoma, is Indian Land with many Native American tribes in the area. Sequoyah's Cabin, built in 1829, honors the Cherokee chief, and there is a museum and welcome center. There are Indian mounds in the area and other tributes to the state's Native American past. Lakes have been built in the past 50 years, and there are camping areas around them.

KOA Sallisaw/Fort Smith West

The KOA at Sallisaw is in a forested area near lakes, archeological sites, casinos and a horse racing track. There are 14 restaurants within a mile of the campground, so you might not even want to cook. Fort Smith and Arkansas are just 20 miles away.



The Sallisaw KOA has 55 sites, and 42 of them have full hookups, with the remaining having water and electricity. There are 18 sites with 50-amp connections and 33 are pull-through sites. The campground has 10 tent sites as well as one-room cabins for rent.



Cable TV and Wi-Fi are available. The campground has a large pool, a pond for fishing, a recreation room, a playground and hiking trails. Each site has a grill and a table. There are bathrooms, showers and laundry facilities.



Sallisaw KOA is less than a mile from Interstate 40.

Sallisaw State Park

Sallisaw State Park, also called Brushy Lake State Park, is a small park on Brushy Lake north of Sallisaw. The lake is small, but with the number of streams running into it and the rocky coastline, there is about 250 miles of coastline at the lake.



There are 35 sites, and 19 of them have water and electricity. There is no sewer but there is a dump station. Four sites are pull-through, and there are 16 sites for tents with no hookups.



The park is open all year, but bathhouses close December through February. There are showers available as well as laundry. Each site has a fire ring, grill and table.



Lake fishing is popular here, and there is a boat dock. The park has hiking trails around the lake and a playground.

Marval Family Camping Resort

The Marval Famly Camping Resort is about 20 miles from Sallisaw in Gore, Oklahoma, on the banks of the Lower Illinois River. The campground is close to Tenkiller Lake.



Marval Family Campground has 144 sites with several options. There are riverfront sites with partial hookups or full hookups, as well as sites not on the river with or without full hookups. Sites with 50-amp hookups are available, and there are 44 pull-through sites. Cable TV and Wi-Fi are available. Some sites are extended stay.



The campground is on the Lower Illinois River, which is stocked with trout regularly. The resort has fishing tournaments during the summer. There is a nature trail, children's pond, mini-golf, volleyball and basketball, and outdoor movies on summer weekends.



In 2010, it opened an activity center where it planned to offer crafts and indoor activities.



The campground also has 54 cabins and three lodges for groups.
