RV Camping Sites Near Baxter, Tennessee

Baxter, Tennessee, is a small town in Putnam County near Interstate 40. The town is near the Cordell Hull Lake, which is a major tourist area for camping and fishing. It is also near the Cumberland River. A catfish farm is one of the main attractions in the town, and it also has a campground.

Twin lakes Catfish Farm

The Twin Lakes Catfish Farm is an RV Campground and a whole lot more. The campground is near Interstate 40 and on the edge of Baxter.



The campground is on a pay lake for catfish. No license is needed for the private lake that is kept stocked with catfish. You may keep your fish or catch and release. The owners operate a catfish restaurant and have an all-you-can eat meal every evening. They also offer lunch specials.



The campground has 30 or more spaces, and more were being added in 2010. The sites have cement pads and full hookups with 50-amp connections. The campground is open year-round with daily and weekly rates available. There is a bait shop and convenience store on the grounds.

Maple Grove Campground

Maple Grove Campground is near the Cordell Hull Lake, just a short walk from the campground, and is about 15 miles from Baxter. The campground caters to fishermen but offers many amenities for camping in the rolling hills of middle Tennessee.



The campground has 38 spaces with full hookups for RV campers. There are 50-amp connections available. Maple Grove has a swimming pool and a pavilion with a fireplace. There are restrooms and a bathhouse available.



A convenience store and bait and tackle shop are on the grounds. Pets are welcome.

Defeated Creek Park

Defeated Creek Park is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers facility on the Cordell Hull Dam and the Cumberland River. The park is on the lake and had a public marina, playgrounds, swimming areas and picnic areas.



There are 155 campsites, including some RV sites with full hookups and some primitive tent sites. There are restrooms, showers, laundry and a dump station available.



The campground has a 6-mile trail, Bearwaller Gap, which is not a loop. Other trails are in the area for bicycling and hiking. The park has tennis courts and volleyball courts.
