New Boston, Texas is a small town on the edge of the U.S. Army Red River Depot, and 15 miles from Texarkana. The town is close to the Red River--a few miles north--and the Wright Patman Lake. The lake is a popular fishing spot in east Texas with good fishing, camping areas and trails for nature exploration.

Clear Springs Park

Clear Springs Park, at Wright Patman Lake, is the closest campground to New Boston. The campground is in the east Texas pine forest and most of the sites are in wooded areas. Clear Springs Park is open year-round. In winter migratory birds pass through the area with bald eagles, pelicans and ducks often flying overhead.

The campground has 165 sites with varying levels of services. Some sites have full service, water, sewer and electric, while other sites have only electricity and water. There are some primitive tent sites, and group sites with water and electric available.

Restrooms, showers and a pavilion are available. Boat ramps and a swimming beach are at the campground. Playground, horseshoes, basketball are just a few of the activities to participate in.

Atlanta State Park

On the other side of Wright Patman Lake, near Texarkana, is the Atlanta State Park. The park is located near the dam that created the lake. The park has a sandy beach for swimming, but no lifeguard is on duty. There is a five-mile nature trail for hiking or cycling and canoe rentals are available at the park.

Fishing for bass is popular, as is water and jet skiing. There are several backroads in the park--many of which are dirt roads--which are popular for bicycling and hiking. The park has basketball courts, horseshoe pits and sand volleyball courts.

There are more than 100 sites available. Some sites have water and electric and some add sewer to the connections. Pull through, as well as back-in sites are available. There are group sites, and some tent sites with no connections. Restrooms and showers are available.
