Thorne Bay is Nirvana for anglers. Located along the east central shores of Prince of Wales Island, this Alaskan waterway is famous for the variety and size of fish species that call the rugged bay home. Commonly caught species include chinook, silver and humpy salmon, rockfish, red snapper, lingcod and halibut. Hooking a 100-pound halibut is not uncommon. For those who can not resist the temptation to cast out, there are a number of lodges around the bay that offer comfortable accommodations.

The Landing at Otter Cove

The Landing at Otter Cove is a floating lodge offering four cabins. Each cabin has its own 15-foot skiff with a 15 horse-power outboard buoyed right outside the door. Cabins come with hot showers and fully equipped kitchens. Visitors choose between guided and self-guided fishing in saltwater and freshwater. Guided tours make use of a 30-foot Armstrong catamaran. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own fishing gear though tackle is available. Self-guided black bear and Sitka blacktail deer hunts are available to guests with state issued tags and hunting license. The Landing at Otter Cove is a 10-minute skiff ride from the center of Thorne Bay.
