RV Parks Near Gallup, NM

A road trip that rolls along Historic Route 66 in New Mexico will hit Gallup about 25 miles east of the Arizona border. For visitors looking to stretch their legs, this area offers hiking along the High Desert Trail System, climbing at Mentmore Rock and plenty of biking paths to choose from. RV parks are available both centrally located right in town or out in a quieter part of the country.

USA RV Park

Located directly off Route 66, this resort park provides campers with a convenience store, gift shop, free wireless Internet access, game courts, a putting green and offers "cowboy cookouts" for guests May through October. RV sites include 50-amp electrical along with full-hook ups, free cable television and pull-thru accommodation for large rigs. A picnic table is stationed at each site but shade trees are few and far between. At El Morro National Monument an hour away, hikers can walk the 2-mile Headland Trail that follows historic inscriptions carved into the rock as well as pre-historic petroglyphs.

Gallup KOA

Sites at this KOA accommodate rigs up to 74 feet in length and offer 30- or 50-amp electrical, full hook-ups, free cable television and wireless Internet and a stationary grill. Campground amenities include a year-round indoor swimming pool and hot tub, a playground for the kids, picnic sites, showers and a camp store. Chaco Culture National Historical Park, an hour away, offers several miles of hiking and biking trails.

Red Rock State Park

Campers arriving at Red Rock have 640 acres of state park land to choose from, although sites are slightly primitive offering electric and water hook-ups, and no cable television or wireless. Simple amenities include a dump station, restrooms, showers and several picnic areas. Guests interested in the historical record of the area can wander into the on-site museum or walk through the park and look for the archeological presence of Anasazi Indians, a tribal band that lived in this area from about 300 to 1200 A.D.
