Camping in Preston and Lanesboro, Minnesota

Preston and Lanesboro, Minnesota, are two neighboring cities located in the southeastern part of the state. The Preston-Lanesboro area is in bluff country located amid the Root River Valley. This scenic location also offers outdoor enthusiasts easy access to the Root River and the Root River Trail System for a variety of land and water activities including boating, fishing and hiking.

Forestville State Park

Forestville State Park offers a variety of activities to visitors year-round including cave tours, hiking and cross-country skiing. The park has three campgrounds with 96 campsites, some of which remain open for winter camping.

RV campers and tent campers are both welcome to stay at the park. Campsite amenities include picnic areas, barbecue grills, electric hookups and handicap accessible shower facilities.

Take a guided tour and explore the park's underground Mystery Cave, which features stalagmites, stalactites and underground pools, or go brown trout fishing in one of the park's three blue-ribbon trout streams.

During winter, trails are available for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, skate-skiing and snowmobiling.

Eagle Cliff Campground

Located right on the Root River and within just a mile from the 60-mile Root River Trail System, Eagle Cliff Campground offers both water and land recreation to campers.

The camp has waterfront tent sites and RV sites with full hookups. Each campsite has a fire ring and a picnic table. Eagle Cliff also offers group camping, restroom facilities, a picnic area, wireless Internet access, bike and boat rentals and a canoe launch.

Explore the Root River by renting canoes or kayaks or sign-up for a guided river trip right on site. Anglers can enjoy fishing on the river for a variety of species including rainbow trout, rock bass, brown trout, smallmouth bass, channel catfish and crappie.

Maple Springs Campground

This campground is situated on a farm and within a valley formed by the Forestville Creek. Visitors can enjoy the camp's country-style picturesque views.

The camp offers 69 tent and RV grassy campsites. Amenities include electric and water hookups, fire rings, picnic tables and a country store filled with camping and RV supplies, bait and fishing items and groceries.

Fish nearby streams, hike nature trails or view wildlife such as birds and small game during your stay. Additionally, the Forestville State Park is just a mile and a half away and offers more recreational opportunities.
