Places to Go Camping in Melbourne

Melbourne, Florida is located along what is referred to as the "space coast." Cape Canaveral and parts of the NASA space program are located along this section of eastern Florida's coast. The region has opportunities for swimming, surfing, sailing, snorkeling, scuba diving and bird watching. There are several campgrounds in and around Melbourne.

Wickham Park Campground

Tenters and RV campers have access to sites in Wickham Park, in Melbourne. There is a dog park where the furry four legged guests play and romp off leash. Sites have picnic tables and fire pits. Showers, toilets, water sources, sports courts for basketball and volleyball and a playground are all available at the park. Birders have chances to spot brownheaded nuthatch, bobwhite, painted bunting and chuck-will's-widow, among other species. The regions beaches are within 10 minutes where there is sea kayaking, scuba diving and swimming.

Long Point Park

Long Point Park is part of the Brevard County parks system and has sites for tent and RV setups. Showers, toilets, fish cleaning stations, a swimming area, barbecue grills and fire pits, water spigots and a playground are available at the campground. Wildlife watchers have chances to see bobcat, fox, dolphin, manatees, otters, alligators and wood storks at the campground and surrounding area. Fishing, swimming and surfing is possible at the beaches. Pets must be leashed and are not allowed on the beaches or in the lakes.

Breezy Palms RV Park

The Breezy Palms RV Park is 10 minutes outside of Melbourne and offers tent sites as well as RV sites. The park has private showers, toilets, a laundry room, playground, swimming pool, fire rings, picnic tables and a guest clubhouse. Pets are allowed but should be leashed. Beach activities are within five minutes from the park. Road bicyclists have access to the rural roads of the area from the campground.
