Traveling Hawaii on a Budget

Traveling Hawaii on a Budget
Hawaii, with its white-sand beaches, warm blue water, exotic rain forests and fascinating culture, is one of the world's top destinations. Its popularity, unfortunately, is matched by its prices, and inexpensive accommodations are not easy to come by. Visitors who are willing to embrace something other than a typical hotel room can experience Hawaii without breaking the bank.

Budget Accommodations

Before booking a room in Hawaii, explore your options. Hostelworld.com is one of the premier lodging websites for hostel and budget hotel deals. It offers hotel accommodations in Waikiki for a fraction of the cost of more luxurious resorts, which can range from $150 to $500 a night. Although budget rooms have budget amenities, they provide the basic necessities.

Camping

Try stepping out of the city and into a tent. Camping can be a great way to stay in Hawaii, which has numerous parks with affordable campsites. Haleakala National Park in Maui offers free camping for those who pay the park admission fee. Most other state parks cost about $5 to $10 a night. Aside from the money saved on lodging, camping allows you to experience Hawaii's natural beauty firsthand.

Inexpensive Activities

Some of the most memorable experiences to be had in Hawaii are inexpensive or free. Two such activities are snorkeling and hiking. Plenty of day hikes are either free or carry a small admission fee. If you're staying on Oahu, check out the hikes on Diamond Head. Hanauma Bay is considered one of the best snorkeling destinations on Oahu and costs only $5 to get in.
