Camping Near the Gorge at George

The Gorge Amphitheatre near George, Washington, is a popular outdoor concert venue. It is near what is known as the Gorge, or the Columbia River Gorge. There are many campsites near the amphitheater and also along the Columbia River, from free primitive areas to full-service outdoor resorts for RV camping.

Gorge Campground

The Gorge Campground surrounds the Gorge Amphitheatre and has a great view of the Columbia River Gorge. It is designed to accommodate people attending concerts at the amphiteater. You must either possess or intend to purchase a ticket to a concert to camp here.

There are no hookups. RVs are welcome, as is tent camping. Hot showers, water and restrooms are available. There is a convenience store and a basketball court.

Premier camping is available, and this includes a cedar privacy fence and a larger campsite. Regular camping is in an open field with no marked sites. Few services are offered, as the point of camping here is to stay and attend concerts.

Country Cabins

The Country Cabins Motel offers rooms and cabins, and has an RV campsite. There are 11 sites with full hookups--water, sewer and electric--and 50-amp electrical connections.

The cabins have two queen-sized beds, television, microwave and refrigerator. Free WiFi is available in the cabins and at the RV sites. This campground is 10 minutes from the Gorge Amphitheatre, and has daily, weekly and monthly rates.

Ginkgo Petrified Forest

The Ginkgo Petrified Forest is a 7,140-acre park on the Wanapum Reservoir, and has acres of petrified forest.

The park has 50 campsites with electricity and water available. There is no sewer connection. There are sheltered picnic areas, dump stations, bathrooms and bathhouses. There is a boat ramp to the reservoir. There are also primitive camping sites along the water. This site is near the Gorge Amphitheatre and is used heavily during concerts. Reservations are available.

Crescent Bar Resort

The Crescent Bar Resort offers camping with spectacular views of nature. It is on an island in the Columbia River, and is a great spot for fishing, swimming, boating or jet skiing.

There is a golf course, tennis courts, a marina and sandy beaches all around the island. The campground itself is located on the mainland, directly across the river from the island resort.

The campground has 60 RV sites with full hookups--water, sewer and electric--as well as primitive sites with electricity and water available. Bathhouses and restrooms are on the grounds. Trailers are also available to rent for camping.
