Camping Near the Garden State Parkway in the Holmdel, New Jersey, Area

Holmdel Township is a small, prosperous community with a 2010 population of about 14,000 located in the northeast area of New Jersey. The township is just off Exit 114 of the Garden State Parkway and is near the state's famed Pine Barrens. Hiking, boating, biking, fishing and wildlife observation abound near Holmdel, whether in the Pine Barrens or state parks, and campers can find a place to stay in the parks and private RV campgrounds.

Cheesequake State Park

Cheesequake State Park can be accessed from Garden State Parkway Exit 120. Camping in tent or RV sites is permitted at the park. Tent sites are flat and level with fire rings, grills and picnic tables. RV sites are primitive, and there is a height limit of 11 feet for RVs entering the camping area. Flush toilets and showers are available next to the campground. Pets are not allowed in the overnight campgrounds. Fishing areas, hiking trails and mountain biking routes can be found within the park. Canoeing and kayaking are allowed between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Allaire State Park

Allaire State Park is approximately 13 miles south of Holmdel, about three miles from Exit 98 of the Garden State Parkway. Group and single campsites for tents and RVs are available at Allaire State Park. No pets are allowed in the overnight camping areas. RV sites are primitive. All sites have fire rings and picnic tables. Flush toilets and showers are available at the campground. Group campsites can accommodate up to 40 people, and reservations are strongly urged. Fishing, swimming and canoeing are available within the campground on the Manasquan River.

Surf and Stream Campground

Surf and Stream Campground is approximately 30 miles south of Holmdel and 10 minutes from Exit 80 of the Garden State Parkway. Surf and Stream caters mostly to RV campers, with daily, monthly and seasonal rates available, but will accommodate tent campers on an available space basis. Cabins are available for nightly stays. The campground has hot showers, flush toilets, fire rings and grills and picnic tables. Golf courses, hiking trails, horseback riding, beaches and restaurants are within 15 minutes of the campground. Pets are allowed with certain breed restrictions; contact management for information on your breed and size of pet prior to booking sites.
