Camping in Moraine Near Rocky Mountain National Park

Moraine Park Campground is the largest of five drive-in campgrounds in Rock Mountain National Park. There are also some primitive backcountry camping sites, as well as many RV parks near the national park. Moraine is the most popular, and all the campgrounds in the area provide a great base for exploring the Rocky Mountains.

Moraine Park Campground

Moraine Park Campground has 247 sites during the summer, and 85 open during the winter, in this large year-round camping area. The campground is in a ponderosa pine forest, about two miles from the Beaver Meadows entrance area to the national park.

There are no electrical hookups and no water connections. Water is available at campsites in summer, but not in winter. There is a dump station open in summer.
This is one of only two campgrounds in the national park that take reservations in summer--May 26 through October 4. You may start making reservations on Jan. 1 each year. In winter, camping is on a first come first served basis.

The national park system has 369 miles of trails. Moraine Campground has several trails that are on relatively flat land, and are easy to use and are easily accessible.

Free shuttle buses are available for transportation inside the park.
In winter, group sites, for groups of up to 40 people, are available.

Glacier Basin

Glacier Basin Campground is the second largest campground in Rocky Mountain National Park, and is close to Moraine campground. The campground has 150 sites, and is on Bear Lake Road, six miles south of the Beaver Meadows entrance.

This campground has no electrical services or hookups. Water is available in summer. Reservations may be made for parts of the campground for summer camping, while the rest is available on a first-come first-served basis. The park fills up quickly in summer. The park has group camping sites, and is closed in winter.

The free shuttle stops here and provides access to trail head along Bear Lake Road.

Estes Park KOA

The Estes Park KOA is a good campground for people who want full hookups and services, but still want to be close to the national park. This campground is open May through October.

There are tent sites, RV sites and cabins available. Full hookups are available for RV camping, with water, sewer and electric services. Water and electricity are available in the tent camping area. There are 42 RV sites, 17 tent sites and 27 cabins.

The campground has showers, bathrooms, basketball court and other games, and is 10 minutes from the entrance to the national park.
