Cooking out and grilling are almost rites of passage for most people and families. Backyard barbecues, tailgate parties at ballgames or simply enjoying some campground and car camping meals are all outside grilling affairs that require the proper equipment. Bayou Classic is a maker and producer of outdoor stoves and grills for just such purposes. Knowing a bit about the parts and composition of these stoves helps keep the food cooking and tummies full.

Regulators and Pressure Valves

To get the propane to the burners efficiently and without explosions, a regulator must be used. Bayou Classic uses regulators with 36 to 50 inches of stainless steel braided hose and 3/8- or 1/4-inch swivel jet connectors (where the regulator attaches to the stove). The regulators have a twist valve that, when turned, controls the flow of the gas for burning.

Burners

The hose from the regulator that attaches to the propane tanks on one end and the stove on the other feeds gas into the burners. Bayou Classics come with either one or two burners. Burners are cast iron and use an air shutter to help control flame quality, heat and burn. Burners are shaped like a paddle and attached to the stove with twist/screw-like action. The handle of the burner is threaded, allowing it to be screwed into the stove housing.

Frames and Accessories

Bayou Classic stoves come in either cast iron or stainless steel. Frames are stout and solid, with four legs extending down from the burner and grilling surface. Add-ons such as different grill tops or fryers for turkeys are available. A series of skimmers, cooking paddles and thermometers are available through Bayou Classic as accessories and add-on parts for the cookers and stoves.
