Fishing reels come in a variety of different styles. Saltwater reels designed for reeling in heavy sport fish such as marlin and tarpon have different mechanisms than their freshwater cousins that are lighter weight and used to fight smaller species. The Quantum XR6 is a freshwater spinning reel used for casting out into freshwater for fish like bass, crappie, trout and bluegill.

Spool Assembly

The Quantum XR6 spool assembly consists of many parts, including the drag knob, spool assembly, spool adjustment washer, main shaft assembly and the rotor nut and rotor nut lock screw. The spool assembly houses the fishing line and allows it to feed out or be reeled back in.

Rotor

The rotor attaches to the reel and provides the spinning mechanism to cast out and use the spool. The rotor consists of the kick lever cover and spring, spring shaft, ball spring, spring holder, the bail spring cover/cover-screw/and holder, bail assembly and the line roller. The arm lever attaches to this mechanism by means of the bail screw, arm-lever screw and the bearing plate screw.

Body Cover and Bushings

The body cover houses all the mechanisms and has the level extruding outward for reeling in, dropping the drag and releasing the casting mechanism. The bushings are a set of contained ball bearings that allow friction-assisted use of the arm-lever. The body cover is attached via the body cover screw. An oscillator, consisting of a series of gears, a bushing and a slider is attached to the body with the oscillator screw.
