If you're looking to go horseback riding on scenic trails overlooking the Snowbird and Rag Mountains, as well as the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, then look no further than Big Creek Stables. This is part of the larger Big Creek Outdoors Resort, which provides guests with several activities from fishing to hiking to mountain biking and horseback riding. The resort provides visitors with several horses to choose from, and it caters to riders of all abilities. The resort typically offers two hour tours, but longer tours can be arranged at a visitor's request. Whitewater rafting trips are also available along the Cataloochee Creek and Big Creek.

French Broad River Dude Ranch

The French Broad River Dude Ranch is centered around horseback riding and offers a wealth of other outdoor activities, as well. Horseback riding activities include cattle drives, where six to ten guests get to herd cattle while on horseback---just like in the Wild West. One of the most popular events at the French Broad River Dude Ranch has been the team penning events, which occur twice per week and consists of guests herding cattle into a box. There are also horseback riding trail tours, where the pace can go from walking to galloping. This Dude Ranch caters to guests of all ages. The resort also hosts rafting trips down the French Broad River, as well as camping, bonfires and sing-a-longs right in the midst of the Smoky Mountains.

Walden Creek Stables

Walden Creek Stables features over 500 acres and over a hundred horses. This resort has been a family attraction for many years. It offers a wide assortment of rides for guests to choose from, catering to many ages and levels of ability. Highlights include the Valley Hill Ride and the Mountain Adventure Ride. The resort claims on its website that it is "not just another place to ride horses, but a Western spun adventure!" It also offers Western-style weddings, primitive cabins, hay rides, horseback trick riding and Wild West shows.
