Kids Activities Near Rolla, Missouri

Rolla is a city in the central region of Missouri in the Meramec Valley. The city is situated midway between the larger Missouri cities of St. Louis and Springfield. Rolla is most notably known in the area as for its untouched countryside. Outdoor enthusiasts travel to Rolla to enjoy hiking, biking, fishing and kayaking. For kids, the city offers a variety of activities to keep them busy and entertained.

Mark Twain National Forest

Mark Twain National Forest covers more than a million acres of Missouri, including some areas of Rolla. Kids who enjoy outdoor recreation will certainly find plenty of activities to keep them busy. The national forest offers campgrounds, hiking trails, fishing areas and places to swim. Single person admission is only $2 (as of 2010), so bring the entire family, including the dog. Mark Twain National Forest is pet-friendly.

Ozark Actors Theatre

Ozark Actors Theatre is located in Rolla along Cedar Street. This live performance theater opens the world of stage art to both adults and children. The Ozark Actors Theatre offers two workshop classes for children of all ages. In the children's workshop, kids can receive instruction in dance, singing and, of course, acting. Each day your child will have the opportunity to learn something new, from costume design to public speech. The teen workshop concentrates on more serious showcases. Your teenager will continue studies in acting and dancing, while tackling advanced acting studies such as monologues, musicals and auditions. The work can be intense, but rewarding as well.

Rolla Skate Park

Rolla Skate Park is one of the newest additions of Rolla Parks and Recreation. The skate park offers a friendly and safe environment for your daredevil. While the park is unsupervised, certain safety rules do apply. Kids under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Helmets must be worn at all times by anyone within the skating area. Although not required, Rolla Parks and Recreation does recommend that skaters also wear knee pads, elbow pads and hand and wrist guards. From June 1 to Aug. 1, the park is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. All other times, the park is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
