"Lakewood was called The Prairie in the beginning," explains Lakewood Historical Society. Just south of Tacoma, the 20-mile region was originally a land filled with little but small lakes, clusters of Garry Oak trees and Indians. Incorporated in 1996, Lakewood provides hiking, swimming, boating and the enjoyment of Lakewold Gardens, 10 acres of botanical delights. After a long day, dine at a nearby Korean restaurant and enjoy your evening. "And possibly, just possibility, on a warm summer evening, you might hear echoes of the joyous celebrations of Indians and early settlers camping out on The Prairie," concludes Lakewood Historical Society.
