Southampton, New York offers a beach community with art galleries, museums and historic sites. For shopping and dining, there are a variety of choices. Beaches and resort areas accommodate biking, hiking and jogging, with additional opportunities for fishing and horseback riding. Wineries and water sports such as sailing, windsurfing and kayaking add to the beach experience. Wildlife enthusiasts can go on whale-watching expeditions. Local theater companies and movie theaters offer relaxation and entertainment. Southampton is famous for its unique light, and attracts many artists and visitors.

Village Latch Inn

Billed as a boutique hotel, the three-story Village Latch Inn sits on five quiet acres, with guestrooms and suites. Owned by artists, the inn is decorated with artifacts and furniture from over the world, including Europe, Africa and Asia. Much of the furniture is wicker or polished dark wood, and the ample beds some with comforters and throws for cool evenings.

The grounds include a heated pool and tennis court, with access to a nearby fitness club. Many of the rooms or suites offer fireplaces, along with decks or balconies. The secluded acreage provides shade and privacy, and the inn has hosted celebrities, along with people from fashion magazines and corporations. Guests can stay in the main inn or rent a villa for large or family gatherings. The inn is within walking distance of Southampton.

Southampton Inn

The Southampton Inn has five acres of broad lawns that complement the Tudor-style architecture. Guests can stroll the grounds and enjoy the patio seating. Moderate exercise includes croquet and horse shoes, along with swimming in the heated outdoor pool. For extra exercise, there is a tennis court, badminton and volleyball. The hotel restaurant opened in March for breakfasts, and will add lunches and dinners for the summer season.

All accommodations include a mini-refrigerator, cable TV, desks and wireless Internet. The plush comforters and beds are supplemented with sofa beds in select rooms. Guests have access to the library, with fireplace and piano, as well as the game room. Young families appreciate the children's play area. The inn offers pet-designated rooms for guests who call ahead to make arrangements.

The Mill House Inn

Located in the east Southampton area, the Mill House Inn is a luxury bed and breakfast. Beaches and ocean surround the area, filled with wildlife. Nearby sites of interest include the Sag Harbor Whaling and Historical Museum, the Guild Hall Museum and the Montauk Point Lighthouse, at the easternmost point of the Southamptons, in Montauk Point State Park.

The Mill House Inn offers accommodations for a variety of guests and occasions. Suites are designed for singles, couples, families with children and guests with pets. Each suite has its own name and individual decor, such as "America's Cup" or "Captain's Quarters." The rooms include comforters, desks, leisure chairs and distinctive decor. The inn offers a award-winning breakfast selection, including fresh coffees, teas, hot cocoa, omelets, sausages and a summer special of lobster frittata.
