Best 3 Man Tents

Best 3 Man Tents
Camping isn't just for couples anymore. Excellent 3-person tents are now on the market that have all the aspects of the one and two-person tents you have come to love. Lightweight, durable and affordable options of 3-person tents are being manufactured by dozens of outdoor gear companies. Some of the best 3 man tents can be found for under $300, and some of the ultralight options are probably lighter than the two-person tent you used when you first went camping as a kid.

Ultralight

*Black Diamond, Vista, $369.95, as of August 2009
Dual vestibules and steep sidewalls make the Vista one of the most user-friendly lightweight 3-man tents on the market. Two doors, a single hub pole system and a roomy floor plan seal the deal.
*Mountain Hardwear, Skyledge 3, $440.00, as of August 2009
The Skyledge 3 is designed for true ultralight backcountry camping. An all mesh canopy and two-pole system reduces weight and bulk, and Mountain Hardwear's Evolution Tension Arch assures taught sidewalls that allow for maximum space.
*MSR, Mutha Hubba, $399.95, as of August 2009
Equipped with MSR's rain fly and pole system, the Mutha Hubba is one of the most versatile lightweight tents available. Two doors and vestibules, and a triple arch pole configuration maximize space. Like other MSR tents, the rain fly and poles can be used as their own lightweight shelter in any weather.

Durable

*Black Diamond, Oasis 3, $359.95, as of August 2009
The 3-pole construction of the Oasis creates a stable, variable diameter base. Steep sidewalls assure that you can use all 14 square feet of floor room. Add a large vestibule for gear and a secure-mounting rain fly and you are ready to go camping.
*Big Agnes, Emerald Mountain SL3, $399.95, as of August 2009
Shifting the paradigm of 3-person shelters, Big Agnes has created an award-winning tent with its Emerald Mountain SL3 design. Two doors are placed on opposing sides of the mesh canopy, allowing you to step into this sturdy tent. Twist clip attachments also make for easy set up and solid structure.

Under $300

*REI Quarter Dome T3, $299.00, as of August 2009
This tent will save you money, and save you from the weather. The Quarter Dome T3's no drip vestibule design, opposing side doors and secure ripstop rain fly make it one of the driest, snuggest tents you can buy. There is no such thing as bad weather when you are in the Quarter Dome.
*Mountain Hardwear Lightpath 3, $220.00, as of August 2009
The Lightpath is all about visibility. The mostly mesh canopy gives a great view on clear nights, and Mountain Hardwear's no drop vestibule lets you leave the door open during the rain without getting wet---perfect for storm watching.
*REI Hoodoo 3, $199.93, as of August 2009
This tent says 3, but it is almost big enough for 4. Its large box frame and roomy dual-access vestibule let you keep all of your gear outside of the tent. The tent floor is waterproofed and made of a no wick material to keep you dry during the heaviest downpours.
