After 8:30 p.m., Fremont Street is home to an hourly spellbinding light and sound extravaganza featuring 12.5 million LED bulbs synchronized with an inspiring sound system featuring hits by Queen, Kiss, Don McLean and more. While in Las Vegas you could plan a side trip to the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon or the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead recreational area. For less familiar outdoor excursions, Floyd Lamb State Park, an oasis in the Mojave Desert only 20 miles from Las Vegas, offers hiking, biking and fishing. Mount Charleston, also known as Spring Mountain, a 45-minute trip to the northwest, features year-round hiking and rock climbing and seasonal skiing and snowboarding. Red Rock Canyon, another hiking and biking trail site, is located just 20 miles west of Fremont Street.

On the corner of Fremont and Main Streets, the Vegas Club Hotel and Casino is situated at the entry to the five-block-long Fremont Street Experience. The Sports Hall of Fame housed here is a free attraction, and the sports theme carries through in the casino decor. A full-service restaurant, the Great Moments Room, a sandwich shop, the Upper Deck and an ice cream shop, the Seventh Inning Scoop, are all on site. Room prices are $25 weeknights and $54 Friday and Saturday.

Binion's Gambling Hall and Hotel

In the original historic 80-room section of Binion's Gambling Hall and Hotel, Texas cowboy Benny Binion introduced the first vogue gambling hall and saloon in 1951. The purchase of an adjacent high-rise in 1988, complete with the rooftop pool and sundeck, expanded the property to a full block. Binion's Ranch Steak House on the 24th floor is a romantic setting with a breathtaking view of the city. For more casual dining, a coffee shop, snack bar and deli are on the premises. Guest room rates range from $25 to $53 a night.

El Cortez Hotel and Casino

A short walk to the Fremont Street Experience, the El Cortez Hotel and Casino claims fame as the hotel-casino with the longest continual operation in Las Vegas. Their dining service, Gambling Gourmet, offers meals delivered to your gaming table. The Flame Steakhouse has a gourmet menu, the Cafe Cortez a more affordable broader menu and the Food Court includes a sub shop, coffee shop and ice cream parlor. The El Cortez offers an enticing pricing package. For a weeklong stay, one weeknight, regularly $43, and one weekend night, normally $66, are free.

Main Street Station

The hotel lobby of the Main Street Station is an antique and collectible museum decorated in a Victorian theme. A selection of award winning handcrafted beers is available at the Triple 7 Microbrewery. The acclaimed Garden Court all-you-can-eat buffet features eight ethnic food bars and a dessert station. Pullman Bar and Grille offers elegant dining with a tantalizing menu including prime rib and fresh seafood. A room at Main Street Station is $36 through the week and $60 on weekends.

Four Queens Hotel and Casino

Situated in the heart of Fremont Street, the Four Queens Hotel and Casino occupies an entire city block. Hugo's Cellar, voted best gourmet restaurant in Las Vegas every year since 1991, offers a romantic setting, and all ladies are presented with a single red rose. For more casual dining, Magnolia's Veranda is open 24 hours. The Chicago Brewing Company serves appetizers, pizza, sandwiches and award-winning microbrews. Friday and Saturday reservations are $69 per night. Sunday through Thursday reservations are $32 each night.
