Lock 3
Downtown Akron is the home of Lock 3, an outdoor amphitheater used for festivals and music. From May to September, Lock 3 hosts a farmer's market where you will find fresh fruits and veggies and free use of all Lock 3's sports equipment, including bocce sets, kites and baseball supplies. In the winter, Lock 3 is iced over and becomes a 10,000-square-foot outdoor ice-staking rink and host to an incredible German Christmas market.

Metro Parks
Summit County Metro Parks encompass 13 parks in 7,300 acres, providing over 120 miles of hiking and skiing trails. Open from dawn to dusk, you will find many outdoor recreation and educational opportunities here. The Bike & Hike trail consists of 33.5 miles of pavement that follows old railroad tracks. Here you can exercise while enjoying the wildlife along the Cuyahoga River. Sand Run Metro Park has a soccer field in addition to hiking and jogging trails. You will also find areas for sledding and ice-skating. At Munroe Falls you can swim in the lake, rent a pedal boat, and play volleyball and tennis.
The Metro Parks maintains 18 miles of the Towpath Trail, which shares its path with three other cities. The old canal is an important part of the city's history and was responsible for its growth. Transforming the canal into a hiking trail pays homage to its signifigance. You will find an abundance of aquatic wildlife like herons, birds and beavers. Wildflowers, trees and shrubs are dominant.

Akron Skate Park
Next to the Akron BMX track you will find Akron's Skate Park. Its 19,000 square feet of concrete was designed with the help of skateboarders of varying experience. According to the City of Akron Recreational Bureau, you will find bowls, stairs, ledges, rails and quarter pipes. Regardless of your skateboarding aptitude, you can practice here from dawn to dusk.
