Ocean City lies on a barrier island in New Jersey, just 12 miles south of Atlantic City. What was once a place to store fresh caught whale is now a thriving community worthy of family vacations or a romantic getaway. There is an abundance of things to do while visiting Ocean City, and visitors can delight in a wide array of outdoor activities during their trip.

The Boardwalk

For many people, visiting the Boardwalk in Ocean City is a long standing family tradition. The boardwalk spans 2 1/2 miles and offers a variety of activities for guests. From 5 a.m. to noon throughout the summer months, cyclists are welcome to bike along the boardwalk and enjoy the scenery. Before Memorial Day and after Labor Day is considered off-season and people may ride their bicycles anytime.

Located between Sixth and 14th streets, family amusement parks are equipped with thrill rides, a water park, go-karts and an arcade. In addition to the rides, there are also miniature golf courses guests can enjoy. Those looking for a relaxing experience can visit some of the boardwalk's various shops and eateries, where guests can purchase things such as name brand clothing, saltwater taffy and novelty items.

Ghost Tour Ocean City, New Jersy

Ghost Tour Ocean City, New Jersey, is a 75-minute evening tour that takes visitors through the historic town on a supernatural adventure. The tour begins at Ninth Street and Asbury Avenue, in front of City Hall. Guests can relish in the stories of the past, including untold stories of the Boardwalk, what ghosts haunt the beach at night and the mysterious encounters that have happened at the Flanders Hotel. Tickets can be purchased in advance by phone or in person at Moorlyn Terrace, located on the boardwalk between Eighth and Ninth streets.

Gillian's Island Waterpark

Located at Plymouth Place and Boardwalk, Gillian's Island has activities that are sure to entertain the entire family. The water park boasts various water slides for adventurous guests, while the more apprehensive guests can enjoy relaxing in their own personal cabana or taking a relaxing ride down the Lazy River. Lil' Buc's Bay is a younger child's pirate fantasy come true. Complete with spraying palm trees, a shipwreck, a lighthouse and a pirate fort, young children will enjoy playing and splashing in in the safe shallow water area. Guests can make their day of entertainment complete with a round of miniature golf at Gillian's Island Adventure Golf Course. Designed to make visitors feel like they have entered a vast jungle, the adventure golf course is sure to be fun for the whole family.
